100 New Prospective Clients Almost Overnight

This Pro Selling Tip is designed to assist you in what you may consider a quite time for business.

Make a list of 100 people who you want to do business with who are based within walking distance of your operating base.  Write to them and tell them that you have adopted a new business strategy for the area and you would like to meet up with them to ask for their comments and advice.  Tell them that you will follow up the letter with a phone call to make a suitable appointment.  Some will make an appointment some won’t.  Once you have the appointment explain your business to them, once you have explained you are then in a selling situation.

Of those that won’t make an appointment to meet ask “would you have any objection if I was to contact you in three months to see if we can be of any benefit then”? Most will have no objection.

After three months write to those who did not enjoy an appointment with you and tell them that you will phone them in order to make a suitable appointment to talk business.  When you phone some will make an appointment some won’t.  Carry out the same procedure as above ask the question. “Would you have any objection if I was to contact you in three months to see if we can be of any benefit then”? Do this quarterly over one year.  On the third contact most of those contacted will be calling you by your first name.  On the fourth and final contact you will have contracted business with 80% of those contacted.

This 100 procedure can be used for a different 100 for different commodities.  A salesperson could use this system for prospective clients who need a specific service, or a separate 100 who need a follow up product or the new enhanced product, or just a service call. This is a great tip for any sales manager to develop and monitor a target market for a new salesperson.

A famous lady once said if “If I keep a diary the diary will keep me” So to in business.

Look at your diary for the last year and whatever, month you are in (currently August)look at that month, a year past.  See who in the diary you had appointments with that you did not contract business with and go back to them and give them another opportunity to become your client.  It will be viewed, by the prospective client, as a service call. A great prospecting habit to get into.
